PRINCIPAL
Welcome to Van Alstyne High School!

It is truly an honor to serve as the Principal of Van Alstyne High School and to work alongside
such a dedicated team of educators and an incredible group of students. We are proud of the
strong sense of community, tradition, and excellence that defines VAHS.
I earned my Bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and my Master’s
degree from Lamar University. This year marks my eighteenth year in public education. My
husband, Ted, and I are proud parents to two sons and one daughter, all of whom are now grown.
We cherish every opportunity to spend time with them, our in-law children, and especially our
four precious grandchildren.

At VAHS, our mission is to guide students in developing real-world skills that will empower
their futures. We encourage every student to fully engage in the rich traditions and diverse
opportunities available at our school - whether through Ag/FFA, athletics, culinary arts, fine arts,
or academics.

I look forward to getting to know our new students and their families as we partner together for a
successful 2025-2026 school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is any way I can
support you or your student. My door is always open.

Let’s make it a fantastic year!

Warm regards,
Krista Beal

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Howdy Van Alstyne High School Students and Parents,

I am honored to join the Van Alstyne ISD community for the 2024-2025 school year. This will be
my first year serving the Van Alstyne community. My wife, Rachael, and I have called North
Texas home for many years, and we are both active in our roles as educators. My wife is a
structured learning teacher for students with autism in Denison ISD. We have two beautiful
children, Sutton Jo (3) and Crew Wilder (4 months).

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Studies (2016), a Master of Education degree
with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction (2017), and a Doctor of Education degree in
Educational Leadership (2024), all from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I began my career
as a youth minister and served in various capacities within the church for ten years. As an
educator, I have taught and coached at the elementary, intermediate, and middle school levels.
I strongly believe in servant leadership and building positive relationships with all stakeholders
in our school community. We all have a role in helping our students succeed. I look forward to
meeting and working with you and your students this year!

Keep moving forward,

Dr. Joel Maresh
